The Russian club in Stratfield (Sydney) is celebrating its 99th anniversary. It was founded in 1924 by white emigrants who arrived from Russia. On Sunday, August 13, 2023, more than 125 guests gathered in the club hall. Many have already lived in Australia for 70 years or more. People of different generations came to the meeting.
President of Russian Club Nick Tolpigin informed the editors:
On 13/8/2023 The Russian Club in Strathfield celebrated a major milestone, the club’s 99-year anniversary. In attendance were over 130 people, made up of members, their friends and one member even celebrated his birthday with family and friends. The age range of those who attended ranged from 6-year-old children to almost 99-year-old veterans.
The atmosphere was electric, particularly when the very young, the young and the elderly danced the Russian Traditional Dances to Alexcey’s inspiring music.
We were fortunate to witness a glimpse of the DoRoMix theatre group’s next performance “The Importance of being EARNEST” which will be performed over the 3 days, the 22 to 24 September 23.
It was noted that the centenary is exactly one year away, and members should reserve their places now, as planning is in progress, and this is one event that should not be missed!
And finally, it was stated that the Russian Club existed and still exists on the backs and generosity of its Volunteers, for which the Management Committee and Members are eternally grateful.
