COMMUNITY RECOGNITION STATEMENT
Unification Russian Newspaper

The Unification Russian Newspaper is the oldest Russian Newspaper in Australia and plays an important role in supporting the promotion of Russian language, culture and values to the long-standing Australia-Russian community and newly arrived immigrants from Russia.

The newspaper has become a staple in Russian Australian households since it first published in 1950. The newspaper was staunchly anti-communist in its editorial content from between 1960-1992. While in the more recent times the newspaper not only reports on current affairs? But also information about the life of Russian Australians – by promoting Russian balls, literary meetings and festivals, children holidays, upcoming concerts of Russian performers and Russian music.

Significantly, the newspaper regularly reports on the services and activities of Russian Orthodox Parishes throughout Australia. The newspaper also celebrates the academic, business and sporting achievements of the Australian-Russian diaspora. I acknowledge the important role of the Unification newspaper in uniting the Australian-Russian community and note that the newspaper is in great hands under the leadership of Chief Editor Vladimir Kouzmin.
