When they first met the Sydney “Balalaika” orchestra, viewers are surprised more than once. It is surprising that the orchestra plays Russian music on the other side of the planet, in distant Australia for more than 30 years, and every year expands the composition of musicians and makes new friends and fans. Over the years, the band went on tour not only in neighboring New Zealand, but also in China and South Korea, and with great success toured several times around Russia, in Moscow and in the Far East. When the head of the orchestra, Viktor Serghie, talks about his team, the audience is surprised to learn that out of almost 30 Australian orchestra musicians, only five speak Russian, the rest have very different ethnic roots: among them are the British and the Irish, the Danes and the Poles, the Armenians and the Chinese and many others. And united them all together in the "Balalaika" love of Russian music.
