Last Sunday Sherbrooke Family and Children’s Centre in Upwey opened its doors to the lovers of classical music. Dandenong Ranges Orchestra (DRO) gave their last concert for the year.
This time DRO chose Italy and Italian composers as their ‘farewell’ to 2019. They chose pieces by Verdi, Bellini and Rossini.
DRO сonductor Alexander Vengerovski opened the concert with the collection of interesting and engaging titbits from the history of music and from biographies of composers chosen for the event.
Dandenong Young Strings joined Dandenong Rages Orchestra in Overture from La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. This group of young musicians get together regularly to improve their skills with their instruments, to interact with like-minded young people. Their participation in this music collective and their performances at various events with or without DRO do wonders for young musician’s self-esteem and confidence, give them an opportunity to interact with public and to strive for excellence in their chosen field.
DRO continued the concert with pieces from La Traviata, Don Carlos and Nabucco by Verdi and several pieces from Norma by Bellini, The Barber of Seville and The Thieving Magpie by Rossini. Soprano Nadia Filianovskaia, tenor Justin Corevetti and bass soloist Alexander performed famous arias from operas by Verdi, Bellini and Rossini.
The hall was full. There were young people, families with little kids, mature people, locals and those who travelled far to hear DRO perform once again.
From soul sounds Nabuco to comic notes of Barber of Seville, DRO brought 2019 to a successful close with their Colours of Italy concert.
Wishing the orchestra joyful holiday and looking forward to their 2019 program.
